The present study aimed to investigate the role of emotion regulation and psychological resilience in predicting academic engagement among secondary school students in Kuhdasht County. The present study employed a descriptive-correlational research design with a predictive approach. The statistical population consisted of all secondary school students in Kuhdasht County during the 2025-2026 academic year, from which 240 students (120 girls and 120 boys) were selected through multi-stage cluster random sampling. Data collection instruments included the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Academic Engagement Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and simultaneous multiple regression analysis. Findings revealed a positive and significant correlation between emotion regulation and academic engagement, and between psychological resilience and academic engagement. Multiple regression analysis indicated that emotion regulation (β = 0.45) and psychological resilience (β = 0.33) significantly predicted academic engagement, with these two variables collectively explaining 48% of the variance in academic engagement. Emotion regulation was found to have a greater contribution to predicting academic engagement compared to psychological resilience. The findings suggest that strengthening emotion regulation skills and fostering psychological resilience can enhance students' academic engagement and involvement. Therefore, designing educational and psychological interventions based on these two constructs in schools is recommended.
