[English]

The progress and development of any society depends on the empowerment of individuals and the promotion of their mental health. Given the role of social competencies in improving interactions and mental health, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of social competency skills training on psychological well-being and social isolation of students. This study was conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design and a control group. The statistical population included male elementary school students in Shemiranat County in the academic year 1403-1404. Among them, 40 people were selected purposively and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (20 people each). The experimental group received social competency skills training during 12 60-minute sessions. The data collection tools were the Riff Psychological Well-Being Questionnaire (Short Form, 1989) and the Modarresi Yazdi Social Isolation Questionnaire (2014). The data were analyzed using the analysis of covariance test and SPSS-27 software. The results showed that social competence skills training improved psychological well-being and reduced social isolation in the experimental group, while the control group did not show any significant change. Also, the mean scores of psychological well-being subscales increased and social isolation components decreased. In general, social competence training plays an effective role in promoting mental health, increasing positive interactions, and reducing students' isolation behaviors, and implementing such programs in schools can help prevent psychological problems.
