The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of social, emotional and behavioral skills training on ineffective attitudes and effective communication with peers in students with social communication disorder. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test design with an experimental and control group. The statistical population included sixth grade male students in Tehran in the academic year 1403-1404. The sample size was 30 people selected purposively and randomly assigned to two experimental groups (15 people) and a control group (15 people). The data were interpreted using SPSS software and descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and then inferential statistics to obtain analysis of covariance. To screen for social communication disorder, the students were selected based on the diagnostic criteria in DSM-5-TR, diagnostic interview, and teacher opinion. The Alessandro and Burton (2006) Dysfunctional Attitudes for Children and Adolescents Questionnaire and Mavroli's (2008) Peer Relationship Questionnaire were used to assess the variables. The experimental group underwent social, emotional, and behavioral skills training in 12 60-minute sessions (in person). The findings of the study showed that, after controlling for the pretest, there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in ineffective attitudes (P<0.005 and F=8.25) and effective peer relationships (P<0.015 and F=6.12) in people with social communication disorder; social, emotional, and behavioral skills were effective in reducing ineffective attitudes and increasing effective peer relationships in people with social communication disorder. Therefore, interventions based on social, emotional, and behavioral skills training can be used to improve the poor communication skills of adolescents with social communication disorder.
